I would be honest and tell them so that they know before the background check. Tell them what you have done to become a better person and such. It will then not appear like you are trying to hide it….

It goes either way. In my case HR contacted me and asked about it after they ran my background. I explained to HR and they proceeded with hiring me. As far as I know it’s in my HR record and no one outside of that group know about my status. Just had my 3rd year anniversary and several promotions along the way

Back when I was applying for jobs, I was always upfront with them. I would always let the places know (when they contacted me) if they run a background check what they would find and if they needed an explanation then I would give it to them.

Most of them were polite and thankful, even if they turned me down. Just me, but personally I’d rather people know upfront instead of hiding it and then having to explain when someone goes digging.

I just received a job offer two days after I was interviewed. I’m very excited because it is my first one (I’ve been out of prison 1 month), but then had me fill out an application and paperwork for a background check. The application asked about any criminal background and I simply put the revised code number for the felony, the degree, and my date of conviction (2020). I’m not sure if I should contact them to explain. The hiring manager liked me, but I never got to speak to HR. Not sure what to do…
