# Situation with Forged Signature on Life Insurance Policy

My grandmother, who raised me for most of my life, had a life insurance policy set up for me as the beneficiary. However, when she passed away, I was not present with the family. To my surprise, I later discovered that my mother had forged my signature on the policy, including my name and address, which was incorrect (she used her own address, despite the fact that I have never lived with her).

The policy in question was not of a significant amount, only around $4000, but I am aware that this act of forgery cannot be legal. We are already involved in legal proceedings with my mother regarding other matters related to the estate, and I am wondering if I can raise this issue or take any action against it.

Of course you can bring it up and do something about it. She stole your money. What she did is a crime, so make a police report. You’ll likely have to sue to get that money back.

Note that life insurance is not normally part of the estate, so you may have to handle this as a separate lawsuit.

You should first contact the police. Do you have documentation showing you as the beneficiary?

    1. Your mother committed Insurance fraud.
    2. Try to file a claim with the Insurance company. They will deny it saying it was already claimed. Ask for evidence and tell them that you did not file a claim. They will open an investigation on their end. Personally, I would not volunteer that you already know this.
    3. After they deny the claim, go to the police with the information the insurance company provided. Press charges ad have her thrown in prison.
    4. File a lawsuit against your mother in Small Claims court and get a judgment.

Good Luck, and do NOT let her get away with this.

Just to be clear your grandma was the insured person on the policy and you were the beneficiary?

When you say forged your information on the policy do you mean forged a claim form?

You have a picture of the policy? If you have the insurance company name and policy number, call and identify yourself as the beneficiary and say your grandma has died. See if the policy has been paid out. If they say it was paid out to you, tell them you were the victim of a fraud. Ask them how to proceed.
