The daily charge changes have been ridiculous and will continue to grow over the next few years. All these campaigns to reduce usage have become meaningless why save a few cents a day by switching to LEDs when your daily charge is going to be dollars per day! Another great Labour tweak…
My power usage and bill went through the roof when Trustpower and Mercury merged – anyone else have issues?
Edit: Changed Meridian to Mercury
Switch to Nau Mai Ra. They have no daily charges. My bill has dropped $20 a month instantly.
The daily charge changes are fantastic. Well overdue. Basically all the complaints boil down to ÔÇ£well I used to get a good deal therefore the old system was betterÔÇØ.
It was unfairly shifting lines costs onto high user households (increasingly renters in overcrowded housing situations) and overcompensating people for using less electricity (even though their lower use didnÔÇÖt correspond into lower costs imposed on lines / generators). It was also spiralling, more and more households were becoming low users and the reward for becoming a low user was increasing. Plus the fixed charge was not inflation adjusted, set at 30c a day in 2004.
ItÔÇÖs also very frustrating that the headline is ÔÇ£power price crunchÔÇØ. Inflation adjusted residential electricity costs have been decreasing since 2015. Both in terms of per unit and even more in terms of total yearly costs.
