Nebraska Small Business Person of the Year

A Scottsbluff physical therapist and business owner, Michael Moravec, has been named Nebraska Small Business Person of the Year for 2024 by the Small Business Administration.

In a news release, SBA Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman announced the National Small Business Week 2024 Award Winners for every state, recognizing Moravec for his outstanding achievements as the owner of Bluffs Physical Therapy.

Michael Moravec’s journey to success began in 2018 when he sought assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration resource partner, Scottsbluff Nebraska Business Development Center (NBDC). With their guidance, he developed a business plan, created financial projections, and secured funding to open his first small rental space with one employee.

After experiencing rapid growth in clientele and staff, Moravec once again turned to NBDC in 2019 for help with financial projections to construct a larger building. Despite setbacks due to the 2020 COVID pandemic, including staff reductions and social distancing restrictions, Moravec persevered and successfully moved his company to a larger building with 24 employees.

In addition to his business success, Moravec is actively involved in the community, serving on multiple boards, volunteering, and supporting various organizations, schools, and programs through donations.

As the Nebraska Small Business Person of the Year, Michael Moravec will represent the state at National Small Business Week ceremonies in Washington D.C. in April, where he will have the opportunity to compete for the National Small Business Person of the Year Award.
