Seeking Closure and Compensation for Harassment: How AI Legalese Decoder Can Help

Introduction:
A few years ago, I wrote a lengthy post about the distressing situation involving my ex who posted dehumanizing videos of me. Although the post gained significant attention, I faced challenges in seeking compensation and closure. The evasive behavior of my ex, who has been on the run since 2021, adds to my frustration. This article delves into my ongoing struggle, highlights the inefficiency of the legal process, and introduces AI Legalese Decoder as a potential solution for obtaining the desired outcome.

The Ongoing Concerns:
Recalling my experience with the detective assigned to my case, I realized that they didn’t provide substantial guidance on the possibility of compensation. This realization prompted me to question the lack of existing provisions for such cases. Several years have passed since then, and the absence of closure continues to plague me. To make matters worse, it is disconcerting to think that my ex has successfully avoided the authorities for such a long time. Furthermore, considering his substantial income from construction work, it is highly likely that he is thriving under the radar.

The Lingering Fear:
The mental toll of this situation is immense, as I constantly worry about the number of individuals who might possess the videos my ex posted. The thought of these potentially underage or old recordings being shared and viewed disgusts me. Night after night, I wrestle with nightmares that involve my ex reentering my life, and the fear of encountering him in public, where he may commit acts of violence against me, looms over me at all times.

Paranoia and Unsettled Thoughts:
There is an ever-present paranoia that my ex holds a grudge against me, biding his time to inflict harm or ruin my life. The idea that he may be watching me, given his elusive nature, only intensifies my discomfort. It is crucial for me to address these concerns to reclaim my sense of security. Moreover, the constant fear and turmoil I experience beg for some form of compensation, as enduring these psychological hardships is a heavy burden to bear.

The Potential Solution:
In light of the challenges I face in navigating the legal system, I am seeking advice and guidance on this matter. While my detective has been compassionate and willing to assist, there is uncertainty whether they can support me in pursuing the desired course of action. Assuming your detective was a police officer, a criminal case is not about compensation. So going to the detective was not going to get you compensation from your ex.

You might want to talk to a lawyer asap, as usually the means for getting compensation is via civil court, and you usually have to sue within 2 years of the wrong doing you are suing for- if you haven’t missed your chance, it could be quickly running out. https://blackburnlawyers.ca/blog/how-to-understand-ontarios-limitation-periods/#:~:text=Ontario%27s%20limitation%20periods%20are%20set,a%20claim%20ÔÇ£was%20discovered.ÔÇØ

If you are looking for compensation, you are looking at a civil suit. There are civil lawyers that specialize in this area, google will be able to help you find someone in your area. Reach out to them ASAP to ensure you are within any timelines. Sexual assaults have no timelines, however your scenario may be different.

Something similar happened to one of my friends. She dumped her BF and he posted a video of them having sex with another dude online.

10 years later she’s been able to get it off of the major porn sites, but it’s still out there.

He claimed that someone stole his phone and the legal matters didn’t go beyond that.

  • nudetuesday

Consider looking into civil options, outside the criminal law system. You wonÔÇÖt get monetary compensation from any criminal proceedings.

I suggest doing a consultation with a tort lawyer. Note that you may be too late due to the Limitations Act (in Ontario you have 2 years to start a suit from the date you discovered the wrongdoing) ÔÇö but given the nature of your situation you may fit into an exception.

Monetary claims are a civil matter.

You need to launch a civil suit, and name him as a defendant. In your suit, you should also put in Specific Performances of what you expect him to do. E.g. delete ALL known records of the videos and pay associated costs to take things offline.

If you’re going to therapy, you can seek costs associated with that. If you’ve lost jobs as a DIRECT result of the video being discovered, you *MIGHT* be able to claim losses there, but you’ll need to include the employer’s testimony/comments. So, you would have to be 100% sure that they fired you precisely for that reason. Not because you were late 10 times in a month, you would have to demonstrate through documentation that you lost your job because of that, and NOTHING else.

Damages are only awarded based on calculable losses. You can’t say, “I was working my way up in this company and was expected to be CEO in 10 years and make millions, so they owe me $100M in losses”. It doesn’t work like that. You got fired. You found a job in 4 months, so, AT MOST, you get 4 months of lost pay. If you claimed EI, that factors into the losses.

I’m so sorry this happend to you

  • Vaaness

Have you looked into compensation for victims of crime? HereÔÇÖs a link I found for the Ontario program: https://ovs-svo.com/sites/default/files/pdf/Understanding-compensation-for-victims-of-violent-crime-in-Ontario.pdf

  • Practical-Trifle-898

To add , I am not from Ontario but I am perusing a sexual assault case in my home province , I was put in contact with a lawyer for free legal counsel. I’m not from Ontario but i’m sure they have organizations like that. Look up local organizations in your area that pertain to sex crimes/victims and explain your situation. Good luck <3

  • itISmyphone

Are you saying you were underage at the time of the uploading?

  • Mrsloki6769

We’re charges filed? If so, open an application with victim services.

  • NineChives

You need a personal injury lawyer, ideally one who deals with sexual abuse. I have a friend who does this in Ontario, she says you can sue at ANY point, there is no time limit. To be clear, this is separate from a criminal case.

I think if you Google your city and personal injury sexual assault lawyer, and you will find a lawyer to help you out. Best of luck to you, I hope you are well.

Highly likely provided that the individual actually has money.

Look up Canadian Victims Bill of Rights. Your supports will be listed with links from the government website.

So, not only can the judge order payments for the victim in criminal court. You can then turn around and make a claim against the perpetrator in civil court.

With courts, remember this: you canÔÇÖt get blood from a stone.

  • Independent-Bank-507

IÔÇÖm a little confused about this. You are concerned the officer might not help with the route you want to take. Which is financial compensation I assume, based on the post.

The criminal investigation will not include seeking financial compensation. The officer is strictly going to determine if there is enough evidence to bring your case to a prosecutor. If there is enough evidence and the prosecution feels there is a reasonable chance of conviction they will proceed. The prosecution needs to prove guilt. The officerÔÇÖs job is building the case and collecting evidence. Once a case is built and there is a warrant issued the police will try and make an arrest.

It seems that the evidence is video footage posted online, so it is self explanatory. The fact that you say the police cannot track this man down suggests to me that there is a warrant or at least a need to interview him.

Once the matter is before the court and guilt is determined, in sentencing the judge may order compensation for the victim. This will be out of the police officerÔÇÖs hands.

Now, regardless of criminal proceedings, you can make a claim against your ex in civil court. However, criminal proceedings will strengthen your civil case if guilt is determined. And, if the police cannot track this man down how do you expect to serve him? For this reason, pressuring the police to find and charge this man is most likely your best option.

I have a few questions about this man. How old is he? How old were you? Is he a foreign national? What sets him apart from other men? What is his favourite take out? Does he have particular pet peeves or personality traits? What specialized work in construction does he do (ie:drywall)? Family/friends/drinking/drugs/smoking/hookers? All these things will help find him. If he is a foreign national, they can easily circumvent state law by leaving the country. Do you know his real name? If so, how can you be sure?

  • PakNJak

Just so you know there are no statutory of limitation laws in Canada, you can freely report this at anytime you want and for your protection you should report it just in case you ever know what people are willing to do nowadays.

    Good luck my friend.

If you want monetary compensation for naked pics/videos of you on the internet, might I suggest Onlyfans?
