If you legally adopted her, then she is your child in the eyes of the law. [Missouri is not one of the states that has a pathway for reinstatement of parental rights after termination.](https://www.childwelfare.gov/pubPDFs/groundtermin.pdf)

Looks like Missouri isn’t one of the states that allow reinstatement of parental rights. It’s extremely unlikely they would be able to take the child.

If you legally adopted her, then it is like you birthed her and brought her home from the hospital. There is absolutely no way for him to get parental rights back. . ZERO.

So, the judge goes through a whole rigamarole during the termination of parental rights proceeding (TPR) and the adoption about how it’s permanent and irrevocable. You might not have been there for the TPR, or seen the paper waivers if they used those, but you would have been there for the adoption.

They are not kidding when they say that stuff. I’ve had a few calls over the years from people who wanted to undo an adoption. Usually the scenario is they adopted a stepchild and then caught their partner, the bio-parent, cheating on them. So the divorce is easier if we undo the adoption, right?

    Those are short calls.

For anyone who has never done one, TPR proceedings are incredibly serious, and treated with as much procedural and substantive care as a high grade felony. It’s not like normal family court at all.

They can’t just magic-undo the adoption. More likely they could try to emotionally pressure *you* into undoing it by trying to convince you it was the right thing for the child.

She’s well taken care of here and better off here. And I didn’t think they would be able to do anything. But when I read that message my heart sank and I got scared even though I know I have nothing to be scared about. I just can’t imagine not having my grandchild here.

No worries. Keep on loving that child. You decide if and when and for how long she can visit with her biological dad. You decide, not him and not the court. The State already weighed in on this and you are in charge.
