Found on Discord… take with a grain of salt.
Original Content
A popular meme circulating on Discord claims that a specific clause in a company’s terms of service allows them to:
"… retain and use your personal data and any content you provide to us, without limitation, and without any payment or compensation to you, in perpetuity, for the purpose of promoting and marketing our products and services…"
Elaboration
The meme further claims that this clause gives the company an unfair advantage over competitors, as they can use customer data to improve their products and services without any reciprocal benefits to the customers. Many users are concerned about the potential consequences of such a clause, including:
- Unchecked data collection and retention
- Lack of transparency and control over personal data
- Potential for misuse or exploitation of customer data
