## Legal Issue: Failure to distribute child support payment

The Situation:
Hi, I am a 19-year-old individual whose mother’s last child support payment of $1500 was garnished. Unfortunately, my father is refusing to share any of the money with me. I have already moved out of his house when I turned 18. Is it legal for him to withhold the final $1500 from me, even though I am living on my own now? I would appreciate any assistance with this matter.

## How AI Legalese Decoder Can Help:
AI Legalese Decoder can assist in this situation by analyzing and interpreting the legal language of the child support agreement between your parents. It can help you understand your rights and if there is any legal obligation for your father to provide you with a portion of the final child support payment. It’s not owed to you but to your dad, your mom should’ve petitioned to end child support when you moved out.

Unless you are listed as the payee on the case, it’s not your money. If your mom felt support should have stopped a year ago, it needed to be petitioned with the agency.

Child support payments are supposed to reimburse the other parent for things they need to pay for and/or have already paid for on your behalf (food, utilities, housing, medical/dental/vision/ortho care, schooling/supplies, personal/hygiene care, clothes, etc.). It’s not your money, it’s money your mom owes your dad for taking care of you for the both of them.
