## Lack of Legal Knowledge in a Flea Shampoo Incident

I am unaware of legal processes and unsure about the evidence required for my situation regarding a flea shampoo. The product in question lacked clear instructions and was labeled as ‘non-toxic.’ Unfortunately, after my cat passed away recently, I discovered that the shampoo contained high levels of tea tree oil and eucalyptus, which are known to be unsafe for pets.

When I purchased the product, its reviews were positive. However, upon further research, I found several recent complaints from other pet owners whose cats experienced similar symptoms after using the same product. Some even reported the death of their pets. While I realize I should have conducted more research beforehand, I trusted the product based on its initial reviews and the reputation of the company’s other products.

I am not fully committed to pursuing legal action and would not be disheartened if it does not materialize. My primary motivation was to cover the costs of my cat’s cremation. Any guidance or assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

First, I am so very sorry for the lost of your loss. Losing a beloved pet is awful

I don’t know about the legal specifics to your case, but I do know to prove your case, you need proof. You would need a necrospy (autopsy) to prove a direct correlation between the use of the flea shampoo and their death. A doctor would need to be say with reasonable certainty that the shampoo caused the death, not any other underlying condition.

I suspect, if you’re able to sue, the cost would be prohibitive (you’ll spend more than you could hope to recover.

Sorry this happened. But this is why, in food and cosmetics items from Amazon, someone always asked in the questions section: “Where is this made?”, “Is it made in China?” Never buy any cosmetic or eat any food product from China. It’s all fake or poisonous.

If you can’t afford to sue, at least leave a scathing review. It will be even more effective if you are able to attach a picture of your cat. Warn the others.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I posted about a month ago about how much of a dump Amazon has become. So many fakes, it’s a mess. And some of the items have the labels of real brands but the products are counterfeits. I can’t give any legal advice but thank you for posting this as a warning to others. Again, sorry for your loss.

I’m sorry. Sometimes a product is deemed “safe” but an individual critter can have an allergic or even fatal reaction to a particular ingredient and it’s not anyone’s fault.

I keep exotic critters so I have to be very careful about products used in the home; basically nothing with essential oils will cross the threshold, no nebulizers, no smoking or vaping, etc.
