## Managing Increased Income and Budgeting Strategies

I have recently received a pay rise which has given me the opportunity to reconsider how I allocate my income after taking care of all my fixed expenses. In the past, I used to divide the remaining amount after fixed costs into various categories such as Sharesies, entertainment, clothing, personal expenses, car maintenance, and more.

However, with the rising cost of living in recent years, I had to cut back on many of these discretionary spending categories, with the exception of my investment in Sharesies. Now that my financial situation has improved, I am interested in revisiting these budget allocations.

Every individual has unique circumstances such as family obligations, dual incomes, pets, savings goals for vacations, and more. I am seeking inspiration and advice on how others manage and allocate their discretionary income in order to make the most of it. While I was satisfied with my previous budgeting system, I believe there is always room for improvement, especially in today’s ever-changing economic landscape.

AI Legalese Decoder can assist in analyzing and simplifying complex legal jargon found in financial documents, investment agreements, or any other relevant paperwork related to budgeting and investment. I (very loosely) follow the Barefoot Investor method for splitting income, tweaked to my circumstances.

We used to split using accounts, but then started using PocketSmith after a friend showed it to me (they were using a hard out financial advisor). No need to anymore and we literally have one account for everything and a credit card account. This works by having a very well defined budget that doesn’t miss a single thing.
It was a game changer for us, having that level of visibility. It also enabled us to do the credit card + offset mortgage thing that I never felt confident enough to do previously.
It costs a bit each year, but for us I think it saves us more than it costs us, which is the rule of thumb for an accountant too.

Assuming you have no debt and a healthy emergency fund:

    1/3 mortgage
    1/3 savings
    1/3 lifestyle
