Automated Payment Solution for Taxes in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo

As a self-employed individual who handles my own tax declarations, I am facing a situation where I will be spending more time overseas starting next year, with trips sometimes extending for long periods and at short notice. This change in my schedule is prompting me to seek a more automated approach to manage my tax payments, particularly for my National Health Insurance (NHI) and City Tax. Although I am aware that income tax typically requires a lump sum payment each year, I am also exploring options for automating this process if feasible.

To address this issue, I have attempted to set up automatic debits for my NHI and city tax payments using my Shinsei account, but the request was rejected, presumably due to the bank’s non-membership to easy-pay. In consideration of opening MUFJ or SMBC accounts specifically for this purpose, I encounter potential challenges due to the inconvenience of a long double-barreled name, which I plan to change in the future, as well as the need to deposit funds into these accounts solely for tax payments.

In my search for a remote payment solution, I came across a website for tax payments (https://www.payment.eltax.lta.go.jp/pbuser), but I am uncertain whether I need to be physically present to receive bills by mail, scan QR codes, or read numbers for online payment. Additionally, the scope of this service in relation to NHI payment remains unclear.

Regarding income tax, I have also found a website (https://kokuzei.noufu.jp/), but I am unsure if I would need to physically receive paper bills through mail for payment or if the entire process can be completed remotely, especially while I am overseas.

Furthermore, I am considering the possibility of setting up automatic deductions for NHI and City tax payments using a credit card, and if it could also be used for income tax payments. However, information on this option is not readily available on the NHI or Shibuya City websites.

Lastly, as I currently utilize the freee software for my income tax declaration and traditionally submit it via mail, I am pondering the acceptability of utilizing a courier service to send my documents while I am abroad, and proceeding with payment over the phone or through bank transfer.

Given my predicament, a potential solution for streamlining my tax payments in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo could be the utilization of an AI Legalese Decoder. I presume youÔÇÖre still going to be a tax resident of Japan, right? YouÔÇÖre not moving out of Japan or taking up tax residency elsewhere, right?

Why are you printing your income tax declaration and posting it? If you use Freee, you should use your MyNumber card, set up an Etax and Eltax account and file your taxes online. The second site you linked is for etax, national taxes like income tax, and you can pay through that after you have filed. The first site you linked is for Eltax payments, things like residence tax.

To set up auto payments for things like NHI, youÔÇÖll need to set up a bank which supports Pay-Easy (not easypay). If this is inconvenient for you, youÔÇÖll have to pay via the payment slips.

    >and income tax from overseas

Income tax options outlined here: https://www.nta.go.jp/taxes/nozei/nofu/nofu_tetsuduki.htm

As for NHI, national pension, and resident tax that is all billed at local level. So youÔÇÖd need to speak to your municipality office because there is no national standardized practice at local level

    > So far; I tried setting up automatic debits for NHI and city tax instalments using my Shinsei account, but it was rejectedÔÇô presumably because Shinsei is not a member of easy-pay?

What specifically did you try? There are a number of different kinds of automatic debits, and while I know someone in this thread is talking about Pay-Easy that’s only one possibility among many.

For residence tax and NHI you should apply for this: https://www.city.shibuya.tokyo.jp/kurashi/nofu/nofuhoho/koza.html . Shinsei is explicitly on their list of supported banks https://koukin-koufuri.jp/shibuya_ward/shibuya_ward/GPFSBY01011.jsp (hmm, but maybe you need a bank that’s *also* on this list https://www.city.shibuya.tokyo.jp/kurashi/nofu/nofuhoho/ichiran.html )? I think that’s the only option that will automatically deduct – the F-REGI based system you have to get the slips and scan your barcodes to pay.

For national income tax there’s a similar system where you can register to have payments taken from your account, either via etax or paper form.

You can pay pension with Shinsei, but you need a brick and mortar bank to pay hoken and utilities.

    No idea about overseas taxes
