And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but state and federal *can* both prosecute you. Double jeopardy prevents the same jurisdiction from charging you twice for the same crime. It’s not double jeopardy if you violated both state and federal laws, even if it’s for the same crime. That falls under the Dual Sovereignty Doctrine.
So, keep that in mind. I don’t know how long it usually takes feds to bring charges but since your case has progressed very quickly, I’d be mindful of that.
I think it’s relatively uncommon (*think* I don’t *know*) for both to charge you but I believe it’s generally the state that drops the charges and lets the feds do it most of the time.
Not something to panic about, but definitely something to ask your attorney.
Deportation is likely. I would recommend having someone hold on to your passport and any identification you have (if you still have it) while you’re incarcerated because one of the biggest struggles people have after release is replacing all their identification and replacing foreign ID’s would be especially difficult. The DOC is unlikely to keep up with it, so, be sure to have it somewhere safe.
