It was an accident but did not make difference and ending up settling on a lesser but significant amount.

What software are you using? Solidworks? There are cracked versions that work well. Altium? Switch to kicad.

Best that could happen (without being sued) is remote disabling of the software, but the bad part is that proprietary files created on it become inaccessible and all your work is lost.
