    Talk to your doctor or whoever the attending physician is and to write a note as to what your limitations are, and that you are required to stay in the hospital for observation or whatever else. Have it dated and signed. Keep it for your records. Email or text your boss (preferably email) and let them know you are not coming in due to your reasons.

    If they want to fire you or punish you in some way you already have a paper trail and paperwork from your physician.

    I used to work in unemployment (meaning representing companies in unemployment matters). If your job fires you, you will likely be eligible for unemployment. Your company sounds awful – IÔÇÖd start FMLA paperwork immediately, get a doctors note to say that you are under medical supervision and canÔÇÖt attend work, and then tell your boss youÔÇÖre submitting such paperwork to HR. If itÔÇÖs a small company, still submit the paperwork and doctors note. This is ridiculous. If you have over 50 employees at your company, look into filing an EEOC complaint for discrimination.
