If your renewal is in March you have time to get it reinstated. Just fill out the form and explain to your broker that it was missed as you were out of the country. This is not a serious reason for cancellation so they should be able to reconsider. You don’t really want to shop around now if you don’t have to as rates are pretty high

Just a warning that if your insurance is cancelled, you might struggle a bit getting insurance elsewhere.

Years ago, I was (also) with The Personal on a company group rate for probably 7-8 years, changed jobs and never really thought anything of it. At some point they realized I no longer worked at my old place and they cancelled my insurance. I understand where I screwed up here, but there was no malicious intent – it really hadnÔÇÖt crossed my mind that I was no longer qualified to use them. So no missed payments, no infractions, just a job change, and suddenly IÔÇÖm dealing with the nightmare of finding new insurance as someone whoÔÇÖs had theirs cancelled.

I ended up with an even better rate from the cooperators, but only after a long line of other places refused to even consider me (which IÔÇÖll chalk up to the difference between talking to a human and filling out an online form)

Anything associated to OACETT is a heaping dumpster fire. That is the biggest scam organization. Just wait, the CET designation soon wonÔÇÖt be good enough. Shortly they are announcing the MICA – municipal infrastructure contract administrator, which will come with an additional annual fee and on top of that requires a bunch of course credits to be eligible. Who offers these expensive courses? You guessed it: OACETT. A new designation purely to fill their course catalogue because no one gave a crap about them, and to generate revenue.

Ditch their insurance affiliate and avoid doing anything with them more than what your employer requires.

If PEO was a Porsche dealership then OACETT is a soviet era used car dealership by comparison

    >I was out of the country the entire time this happened, they only gave me 2 weeks to respond, and I don’t even know what this is about! Is it some technicality that they are trying to increase my premium, so they want me to reapply at a higher rate? Why are they doing this?

They were likely hoping for exactly what happened, that you wouldn’t resubmit the application.

When an insurer sends an application on renewal they generally want to get rid of you, but can’t simply cancel you because you haven’t violated one or more of their filed decline rules (too many claims, too many tickets, non-covered commercial use, etc.) so they’re basically hinting in a round about way that they no longer wish to do business with you. It could you specifically, it could be randomized, it could be a specific area (some insurers did this for all of Alberta a few years back just hoping to lighten their book of business.) They probably won’t tell you which but if they were sending one to you specifically, maybe they have reason to suspect something on your current policy is false. I’ve seen a lot of these sent following a claim, whether the claim was shady or was flat out investigated and denied.

    I see they havenÔÇÖt changed.

Did they cancel your policy now, or did they say they don’t let you renew when the time comes in March? Either way that’s a shitty thing for them to do and if I were you I’d shop around.

I think the only reasons a company can cancel on you is if you don’t pay or you’ve lied to them.

  • mangage

Did you call them, explain the situation and ask what you can do?

IÔÇÖm not sure about car insurance as itÔÇÖs government based here, but when I worked for an insurance company it was normal for underwriting to be required to do a more thorough review on policies every few years and they would need all the questions answered to be able to renew. A lot of people have changes that happen but they donÔÇÖt think to tell their insurance until they get asked questions. I donÔÇÖt think they want to cancel you, itÔÇÖs just normal procedure.
