Introducing the Micro-Business Grant Program

We are excited to share the news of our four grant recipients for the initial phase of the Micro-Business Grant Program. This program is a part of the KC Small Business Capital Programs, a joint effort between EDCKC and KC BizCare, which was launched in February of 2024, with financial backing from the Kauffman Foundation.

The recipients of our Micro-Business Grant Program were carefully chosen by a committee comprising various entrepreneurial support organizations, financial institutions, and business leaders. The hardworking entrepreneurs who were selected believed they were attending final interviews, only to be pleasantly surprised with the news of their win!

The four deserving grant recipients are as follows:

• The Next Paige (Elaina Paige Thomas), $25,000 – A full-service talent management agency, media resource center and event space.
• Patrice’s Culinary Collective (Dr. Karen Boyd), $10,000 – PCC aims to bring people together through food, offering culinary teaching services, a variety of bakery items, meals, appetizers, and catering services.
• Bliss Books and Wine (La’Nesha Frazier), $10,000 – An independent bookstore and community space that merges social drinking with introverted reading.
• Mattie’s Foods (Arvelisha Woods), $10,000 – A vegan manufacturing company specializing in high-quality plant-based retail products and catering.

The applications for the next phase of the Micro-Business Grant Program will be open in the Summer of 2024. Interested businesses must be based in Kansas City, Missouri, operational before January 1, 2023, and have ten employees or fewer.
