We have them electronically through our portal, don’t have a paper copy to have as evidence of anything so I think it’s fairly safe to say you could scan and bung it on a cloud server and shred it

There’s no legal requirement to keep them. But the employer won’t issue replacements which is why there is a warning on the p60 to keep it (if that is what prompted the question?)

I’m over 60 and recently found one of my earliest P60s: It’s barely legible, as the print has faded. Just scan your P60s and similar documents and save them in a few places. It’s worth noting that if you save it in someone else’s cloud, it could all disappear if that company goes out of business (this happened to a few cloud companies. about 20 years ago).

If that is your practice, then legally that is fine, but you need to ensure this is what you consistently do, e.g. don’t scan some documents and not other (important) documents.

Does anyone actually use their P60 for anything? I’ve been working for over 40 years and not once has anyone asked for sight of them.
