# Heading: Unexpected Accident on Birthday Night in Bristol

## Situation:
Last night, I had an unexpected accident on my birthday in Bristol. I went out to celebrate and got very drunk, and while walking to the train station, I was hit by a bus. Although the bus was pulling into the bus stop and not traveling fast, I was knocked to the ground.

## Details:
After the accident, I briefly spoke with the driver, but I did not have my phone or any of my friends’ contact information with me, so I couldn’t get the bus’s registration details.

## Current State:
I woke up with significant pain on my left side, prompting me to wonder if there are any steps I should take following the accident.

go to hospital if you are in a lot of pain. You can contact the bus company, but it if it your fault then nothing much will come of it

  • IxionS3

Medically, get yourself checked out ASAP if you’re in significant pain.

Legally it very much depends on the circumstances of the event.

If you drunkenly staggered into the path of the bus giving the driver no chance to avoid a collision that’s on you and you’ve had a lucky escape.

If there’s more to it than that and the driver is at fault then that’s a different matter.

  • Nnozmo

Straight to legal advice, not medical?

There will likely be CCTV if in the centre and if you’re at fault, you’re not going to make any money from this. Even if you’re not at fault, the company and/or driver would need to be doing something wrong.

Go and see a medic. Feel better soon

  • Appropriate_Dig_252

The bus will have footage which they will have given over immediately as the driver doesn’t want to get sacked for hitting somebody. I have a friend who had a kid run in front of his bus suddenly, the kid was fine and my friend kept his job because the kid was an idiot.

  • ShadowPanda987

So rather than go get Medical Attention you decide to get Legal Advice first.

If you’re in pain then you should be focusing on that! Go to A&E!

From the way you described the events of last night I’d say you were at fault for the accident. You were drunk and unaware of your surroundings. You didn’t notice the Bus pulling into the Bus Stop.

I mean you aren’t going to get a payout from this.

  • KV2_STRONK

As it’s an injury following an accident and you’ve woken up with a lot of pain, your best course of action for now would be to go to an Urgent Treatment Centre (search local UTCs) or go ahead and call NHS 111, your health is obviously a priority over any potential legal ramifications.

  • CalvinHobbes101

NAL used to work for the CPS

If you’re in pain, ring NHS 111 and follow their advice. They’ll be in a far better position than anyone here to give medical advice.

Legally speaking, the driver should have reported the incident to the bus company, and they in turn to the police. I would assume that is why the driver got your details. You could also inform the police of the incident on the non-emergency number by calling 101.

It’s difficult to say if anything will happen in regards to any possible action against the bus driver with the limited information you’ve provided. The issue would boil down to whether you were already in the road and the bus driver didn’t notice you, or you stepped out in front of the bus without noticing it due to intoxication and in doing so giving the driver no time to react.

  • ForeChanneler

Why would you go straight to reddit to ask for legal advice and not to a walk-in for medical advice?

  • Canadianingermany

    >  I’ve woken up with a lot of pain on my left side and I was just wondering if there’s anything I should do

    Go to the HOSPITAL

From a legal point of view, you being drunk probably means the accident your fault.

    This video should help.

If you are still in severe pain, go to a&e. If not then ibuprofen and bedrest.

Legally you have no standing here. Even if the driver was at fault, which I am willing to bet they weren’t, the fact that you were drunk will kill any attempt to get compensation.

  • loadinguserprofile

    1. go to a&e if you’ve got any really bad stuff like losing blood / vision / bones in odd places failing that an urgent care centre.
    2. stop drinking so much you walk into a bus or couldn’t see it coming.

  • thorium90232

    Bristol… hit by bus…

    That you Tony?

  • Coca_lite

Is there anything you should do?

Yes, you should go to A&E. the only important thing right now is your health. You may need scans to check for any broken bones, internal damage that you were too intoxicated last night to realise how much pain you were in.

You should later contact the bus company with your discharge letter so that they can investigate properly and at least fully record your injuries in their records. Take photos daily of any bruising that develops.

If you believe the bus driver was at fault, you could contact a no win no fee firm. But you were drunk and it sounds more like you walked in front of a slowly moving bus so it could well be judged to be your fault.

  • Jonfgbg

If the driver took your details he will also have reported it at the depot.

These buses have CCTV cameras everywhere. The bus company should have footage of the incident.

As others have said it sounds like you accept the fault for this but that shouldn’t stop you reporting it to the bus company yourself.
In some cases the bus company can use the information from an incident to review route risk assessments to try and avoid a repeat.

  • Twambam

Please go to the hospital asap first. You might have broken bones and a concussion.

Ask your friends which bus it was and location and also consider going to the police about this.

I’m not sure if you’re getting money from this because it really depends on the circumstances and your injuries.

  • One-Cardiologist-462

Get yourself checked out if you’re in pain.
For all you know, you might have a fracure that you didn’t notice at the time due to being intoxicated.

As for the legality of the situation, I doubt you would have caused any damage to the bus… Especially if you’re still walking. So I wouldn’t worry about being billed for any repair costs.

  • aylientongue

I wake up feeling like I’ve been hit by a bus, I’ve never actually been hit by one tho 😆

  • VB90292

Get to the hospital to treat any injuries. With regards to legal…..it was your fault, don’t you dare go inflict stress and trouble on the driver’s life for your drunken mistake.

  • test_test_1_2_3

Yeah go to the hospital and stop getting so drunk.

You certainly aren’t getting anything out of the bus company given it’s likely your fault in the first place.

Fucking wild your first thought is to come to get legal advice rather than get yourself checked out. Even wilder you think some drink idiot has any recourse for this situation.

  • OMG_YouSeeThat

    – Go hospital to check checked out, important if you are to seek compensation.

    – Contact the bus company, likely its just one particular provider for that area and would expect if the driver has followed procedure they would’ve already reported the incident regardless of fault or not.

NAL – You were drunk which likely was a factor in your accident taking place. That being said if you are considering any legal action speak to a lawyer for advice.

  • evdriverni

I would report it to police so u have a crime reference number at least so would help you with private medical if u have it.

  • PigeonMother

    >I’ve woken up with a lot of pain on my left side and I was just wondering if there’s anything I should do ?

    How about going to A&E?…

  • Sorry_Error3797

As other have said, hospital. See what they advise.

    Other than that;

    – Buses in my area have external CCTV, this should be recorded.
    – Businesses nearby may have CCTV.
    – If you know the rough time the bus company can trace the bus and driver.
    – Driver should have reported this incident.

  • Rowaniac

NAL but speak to a solicitor, the bus company or their insurer may seek to claim for the damage you caused in your drunken state.

  • Accomplished-Ad-3528

Anything you should do? Stop going around drunk might be a fine start. A fine start indeed.

  • TippyTurtley

I’d ask the bus company to review the footage. But only after you’ve been checked out at hospital

  • TomatilloOk8851

The bus probably has CCTV , subject access request to the bus company right away…

  • KerCam01

My advice is learn from it. You had a lucky escape there and sound quite vulnerable with no phone and quite drunk. Also go to A&E for an X Ray. As you were drunk and might have injuries which are only just presenting. Ignore the people on here mocking you. It’s good to ask for advice if you are needing it. Go steady.
