My Co-worker Gave Me an Edible at Work: How AI Legalese Decoder Can Help

Introduction

In recent times, I have found myself in a difficult situation at work. As a person who rarely smokes weed, I had clearly expressed my discomfort with using edibles. Unfortunately, my co-workers have been persistently discussing drugs, including weed, in my presence. I struggled to convey my boundaries effectively due to challenges with understanding social cues, sarcasm, and setting clear boundaries. This situation escalated when a co-worker misconstrued my attempts to avoid the subject and thought I was in favor of trying edibles. He even went as far as procuring THC oil-soaked cheezits and giving them to me, resulting in a distressing experience. Now, I am faced with several dilemmas regarding my job, safety, and overall well-being.

The Impact of the Incident

Evidently, ingesting the edible had severe consequences for me. Due to my unusually high sensitivity to edibles, I experienced symptoms like impaired speech, sickness, panic, numbness, and even loss of consciousness. The after-effects were so debilitating that I had to leave work early and spend the entire night bedridden. It is essential to note that I informed my management that I was experiencing an allergic reaction to cover up the true nature of the incident temporarily.

Concerns and Fears

As a result of this incident, I find it extremely challenging to continue working in an environment where my safety, health, and employment are at stake. Not only do my co-workers engage in drug use during breaks, but accidents also occur on the job. For instance, just recently, a machine operator injured his thumb severely and likely requires stitches. This raises concerns about the overall safety protocols and professionalism within the workplace. Moreover, the fact that they do not conduct drug tests or have a concrete time-off policy adds another layer of uncertainty to the situation.

Stoners usually like to share. Good stoners will respect anyone who doesnÔÇÖt smoke or take part. These arenÔÇÖt your friends. DonÔÇÖt worry about how they perceive you. DonÔÇÖt worry about thinking youÔÇÖll look weak or anything. This is clearly you being poisoned. As mentioned, file a police report and give report to HR. Let them deal with it.

  • See-A-Moose

OP, first, paragraphs are your friend, please use them in the future as this is borderline unreadable.

Second, go to the police. You were drugged without your consent or knowledge. Your coworker has committed a crime with zero consideration of how it could negatively affect you after you told them you didn’t want to do anything like that at work or while alone with them.

Third, after going to the police and getting a police report, bring that police report to your employer. Tell them that your colleague drugged you without your knowledge, that this caused you to become violently ill, and that you do not feel comfortable working with this person. HR will almost certainly fire this person to avoid being liable for their dangerous behavior.

  • Vilento

It’s hard to read everything as most of it is a jumbled mess of head thoughts. But from what I gather, someone dossed you with THC snacks and didn’t tell you? That’s quite literally a go to the police moment. Immediately. Do not pass go. What if you would have od’d? What if it was poison? What if it was a date rape drug? It’s all the same in the eyes of the law. You should also visit a hospital, technically you can do this on the companies dime because you were working at the time of the incident.

You should also inform your management (after police).

This is a scorched earth scenario.

  • FatLittleCat91

You were poisoned and should go to the police. I guarantee it was not a mistake and your coworker knew exactly what they were doing.

  • chantillylace9

Oh my goodness, you were definitely poisoned and this is a major issue, you are not being overly sensitive AT ALL. I am a lawyer, I am not your lawyer and probably do not practice in your state, I just wanted to validify your feelings and let you know that this is not ok. If you want, you can make a police report, and you should, after that, report this to HR. How many people work at your company?

  • Vivanem

Info: you said in the comments on your other post that you were told that they bought you drugs and you asked them if you owed them anything, is that true? because that makes it sound like you DID know that they had bought drugs for you which does change things

  • sean369n

Bring it up with HR. Whoever dosed you deserves consequences. If they arenÔÇÖt fired then definitely consider contacting law enforcement or putting in your resignation.

Edit: You also stated that maybe something you said was misinterpreted? We should unpack that. What did you say that could have given the impression of consent?

  • GeekyBibliophile

I slowly read through your post. You were drugged, you didn’t consent to taking the drugs, and had an extremely bad reaction as a direct result. I know you don’t want the drama (I understand that, I’m the same way with a lot of things), but the issue is this: your co-worker created the drama by spiking those snacks without knowing what your reaction would be. You absolutely need to go to the police. Like, now. Do not wait.

After going to the police, you need to talk to HR, tell them what happened, and that you don’t feel safe or comfortable working with him anymore. You need to stress to them that you ****ABSOLUTELY DID NOT CONSENT TO TAKING THE THC INFUSED SNACK****

Also, once you’ve had a chance to calm down and let the drugs work their way out of your system, I would go back to this post and edit it to make it more coherent, with paragraphs.

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this, and I wish you the best of luck. Please let us know if there are any updates.

  • Obvious_Concern_7320

First call the police, tell them someone gave you an edible against your will (lied saying it was a snack, ie you were poisoned) and then call your employer and report their behavior once you have a police report.

  • funavatar

I get the sense that you hate, hate, hate conflict and especially confrontation. I also appreciate your empathetic viewpoint. But what they did was horribly wrong and if you wonÔÇÖt at least go to HR for yourself, do it for the next person who may not be lucky enough to just get sick. Imagine how terrible you will feel if someone else dies because you didnÔÇÖt report this.

Yes this is conflict and it will be unpleasant. YouÔÇÖve taken a good first step here by bringing it up in this forum and seeking advice. Now you need to take the next brave step and report it to HR. And you need to do it now while the THC is still in your system or they wonÔÇÖt be able to do anything to protect you in the future.

  • Ra_In

Please comment or edit your post with the country and state/province you live in. A lot of comments suggest going to the police… It may be difficult to make a report without your past marijuana use coming up, so it’s important to understand whether it is legal where you are.

  • SGTBlueBacon

I used to be a criminal investigator. It sounds like this could be a criminal case for poisoning, as you were given food by someone who knew that a harmful substance had been introduced to the food without your knowledge. Document everything, to include witness statements, and go to the police. If you struggle with social interactions it might help to put as much on paper as possible to give to police, reducing the chances that you may misconstrue the situation in a verbal interview.

Afterwards, because your coworkers are creating an unsafe working environment, you may want to contact management as well. If they retaliate against you, you may be protected under a relevant whistleblower statute.

  • Jacostak

Just so people are aware, some people cannot take cannabis the same way as others, especially people with confirmed or suspected developmental issues. Endogenous cannabinoids are found all throughout the brain and nervous tissue surrounding the muscles (including the heart), which especially impacts those with familial history of mental health problems and cardiac issues.

If weed impacts you the way this person described then you are likely one of the people who are *commonly* allergic to pot. You should not ingest it in any dose or form if that is the case as you have a significantly higher likelihood of experiencing a heart attack or symptoms of psychosis.

OP, this is pretty close territory to having been poisoned at work, especially after making such an attempt to dissuade others from offering drugs to you. I recommend you contact a lawyer about this and please be careful not to eat anything you have not prepared for yourself.

  • mothbxlls

First off gonna say that this is perfectly readable and idk what these other people are on. Sorry that people decided to put emphasis on that of all things after reading what you went through.

Anyway, as someone who is autistic and has severe social anxiety, I get exactly what got you into this type of situation and why it might be hard for you to get yourself to report it. This exact type of thing happened with me but with sexual harassment instead of drugs. Took me a long time to report it and I regretted not telling sooner. So PLEASE contact the cops and HR, op. Yes its hard but you need to protect yourself and you could help someone else from being hurt there too.

  • IncreasedMetronomy

They drugged you, and if you donÔÇÖt report it, they will drug you again, or someone else, especially if they know there is no consequences for that action. Please report this. This may be your only recourse in case your job is put on the line for your usage. Please please report this.

  • BitchLibrarian

    Please go to the police.

If they had done this close to the end of your shift and you got behind the wheel of a car you could be dead or severely injured with a high chance of bystanders/other road users being involve. If that had happened and you/your body were drug tested then you would be assumed to be responsible.

The next person they do this to may not be so lucky. Clearly, people in this workplace work with dangerous machinery but a car is at least a ton of lethal machinery as well. Reporting only to HR could mean this gets brushed under the carpet. HR work further benefit ofthe company.
