    So if they offer a role that isn’t reasonable, the business should be working with their employee to find a solution. Your friend should not resign, the employer has to apply to the fwc for an order to limit or remove an employeeÔÇÖs statutory entitlement to redundancy payments.

    1 hour travel may be deemed reasonable. Depending on hours of work. Check with Fair work, and see what options the employer can provide to assist with move and extra travel.

    When an employer is looking at redeployment options they need to also take into account the travel/changes and impacts this would have on the employee. If your friend was ok with travelling the 1 hour to the new place then it wouldnÔÇÖt be a redundancy.

    But if the travel is an issue, they need to look at the impacts this would have on their employee and whether this is a realistic redeployment option. In my opinion, if for example she is currently travelling 20 minutes to work and itÔÇÖs now going to take an hour, thatÔÇÖs an issue and isnÔÇÖt a viable option.

    If she is part of a union, ask them. TheyÔÇÖll be able to assist but it sounds like the company is trying to do whatever is easiest for them.

    Depends how equivalent and reasonable the redeployment offer is. There was actually a case I read with pretty similiar facts some time ago (employer wouldn’t pay redundancy cause it offered roles but created additional travel time) so you should be able to get some reasonably accurate advice on it.
