## WALLINGFORD SMALL BUSINESS WORKSHOP IN SPANISH

WALLINGFORD ÔÇö Three local community organizations are collaborating to provide a five-session small business workshop in Spanish aimed at breaking down barriers to business ownership and fostering entrepreneurship in the Latino community.

The workshop is a joint effort between the Spanish Community of Wallingford, Meriden-based Midstate Chamber of Commerce, and Community Economic Development Fund (CEDF). By bringing together these organizations, the workshop aims to cater to the needs of Spanish-speaking residents interested in starting their own businesses.

Sessions will be conducted once every two weeks, commencing on Monday, Jan. 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at SCOW, 284 Washington St., and concluding on Monday, Feb. 26. The fee for each session is $10, and it has a maximum capacity of 20 participants.

Currently, there are approximately eight participants signed up for the first session. The collaboration between the three organizations was born from a conversation between Celeste Tapia, business relationship coordinator at CEDF, and Rosanne Ford, president of the Midstate Chamber of Commerce, regarding their prior small business workshops.

The Midstate Chamber of Commerce traditionally held small business workshops in English. However, Tapia had previously held Spanish-language workshops across Connecticut, aiming to assist Spanish-speaking residents interested in entrepreneurship. Bringing these efforts to the Meriden and Wallingford area seemed like a natural progression, and SCOW, with its strong ties to the Latino community, provided the ideal venue for the workshop.

The ultimate goal of the workshop is to help Latino residents navigate the process of opening their own businesses, all while overcoming language barriers. Tapia, drawing from her own experience of starting a business after moving to Connecticut, recognizes the challenges faced by Latino entrepreneurs and is eager to support them through this journey.

The first session of the workshop will focus on creating a business plan, followed by sessions covering accounting, financing, marketing, social media strategies, and securing business loans. The sessions are designed to be flexible, allowing participants to attend those most relevant to their specific needs as business owners.
