Airlines Suspend Flights to Ben Gurion Airport Amidst Hamas Attacks

Several major airlines have canceled flights to Ben Gurion International Airport after Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a large-scale surprise attack on Israel Saturday, leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured.

United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines all announced that they have temporarily suspended flights to and from the international airport near Tel Aviv. The suspension of operations is expected to last until the situation stabilizes and it is safe to resume flights.

United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines are not the only ones affected. Delta stated that it is working to safely transport its personnel back to the U.S. and is coordinating with the U.S. government to assist in the repatriation of U.S. citizens who wish to return home.

Other airlines, such as Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates, Ryanair, and Aegean Airlines, have also canceled flights to Ben Gurion Airport. However, flights to Eilat, Israel’s second international airport, and a popular tourist destination on the Red Sea, have not been suspended.

Considering the security situation in Tel Aviv, Lufthansa and its subsidiary Brussels Airlines have canceled all flights to and from the city until at least Monday. Air France has halted its Tel Aviv flights indefinitely, allowing customers to postpone or cancel their trips free of charge.

Transavia, a low-cost carrier of the Air France-KLM group, has also canceled all flights from Paris and Lyon to Tel Aviv until Monday. Additional cancellations include Iberia Express’s Tel Aviv flights and ITA airways’ flights until Sunday morning at the earliest. Polish carrier LOT has also canceled its flights from Warsaw on Saturday.
