Notably, Viasat Inc., based in California, acquired London’s Inmarsat, while France’s Eutelsat SA is expected to merge with the British low-earth orbit startup, OneWeb.

Intelsat, which launched the world’s first commercial satellite in 1965 and currently maintains over 50 satellites in orbit, recently emerged from bankruptcy after reducing its debt from $16 billion to $7 billion. With plans to further reduce debt, Intelsat intends to allocate a portion of an anticipated $3.7 billion windfall from the US Federal Communications Commission’s spectrum divestment for 5G mobile services. Additionally, the company plans to utilize remaining funds for venture capital investments, actively exploring potential synergistic partnerships and acquisitions.
