## Cybersecurity Breach at CoinsPaid: Unauthorized Transactions Totaling $7.5 Million Detected

Crypto payment gateway CoinsPaid faces its second security breach in six months, as reported by web3 security firm Cyvers. The firmÔÇÖs artificial intelligence system detected irregular transactions on Jan. 6, resulting in the withdrawal of approximately $7.5 million. The unauthorized transactions involved digital assets including Tether (USDT), Ether (ETH), USD Coin (USDC), and CoinsPaidÔÇÖs native token CPD.

Following further analysis, Cyver identified unauthorized transactions involving BNB (BNB) worth more than $1 million, bringing the total amount stolen close to $7.5 million. CoinsPaid, an Estonian payment processor for digital assets, has processed over 19 billion euros in crypto transactions. Despite the breach, the company has not yet commented on the attack.

CoinsPaid previously suffered a security breach in July 2023, resulting in a theft of more than $37 billion. According to CoinsPaid, hackers used a fake job interview to trick one of its employees. The worker allegedly responded to a job offer and downloaded a malicious code, allowing the bad actors to steal information and provide them with access to CoinsPaidÔÇÖs infrastructure.

In a post-mortem report of the hack, CoinsPaid attributed the breach to the North Korean state-backed Lazarus Group, who had attempted to infiltrate the platform several times since March 2023. The group then switched to ÔÇ£highly sophisticated and vigorous social engineering techniquesÔÇØ after multiple failures, targeting employees rather than the company itself. The Lazarus Group is believed to be behind several crypto hacks in 2023, stealing at least $600 million in crypto last year, according to blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs.
