The Election Commission has now approved the nomination papers of 12 candidates, including Mahmoood Khan Achakzai, Suvati Murad Sai, and KP Muhtasim Tafseel-e-Lateef represented by various parties, for the Senate elections. Among the total 42 candidates who had submitted their nomination papers for the seats in the Senate, 16 were from the general category, 25 were women, and 10 were technocrats.
The papers of 16 general candidates, 6 out of 7 women candidates, and 8 out of 10 technocrats were approved today. Among those papers that have been accepted, three PTI candidates, including Mahmoood Khan, were named, as well as 12 other candidates from different parties. A total of 30 candidates have been declared eligible, including Suvati Murad Sai, who claimed that she was incorrectly disqualified for the technocrats’ seat and that some of her supporters, like Khurram Sher, did not publicly endorse her.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Wazir Aala Mahmoood Khan, who had not nominated himself for the election, did not refuse to sign any of the affidavit papers he signed, and PTI’s Asif Iqbal, Mahmoood Khan Achakzai, Suvati Murad Sai, Rafi Jishan, Sajjad Hussain, Mohammad Naseem, Masood Rahman, and People’s Party’s Mustafa were included, while Technocrat Jiya-ul-Haq raised objections to only two.
