## Seeking Support in a Difficult Situation

I have found myself in a challenging situation with my partner, and unfortunately, I don’t have anyone in my life to confide in or seek advice from. That’s why I’m grateful to have stumbled upon this community, where I hope to find the support and encouragement that I need.

### Partner’s Legal Troubles and Restrictions

Two years ago, my partner was arrested on charges of SA. Following a plea deal, he was sentenced to four years of deferred judgement for a felony charge, with an additional ten years of registration on the SOR for a misdemeanor charge, making a total of 14 years.

He is now in contact with his probation officer and is subject to various restrictions, such as no internet use and the implementation of a safety plan. Next week, he will officially begin registering.

### Emotional Struggles and Uncertain Future

Navigating this situation has been an ongoing battle for both of us. I find myself torn between supporting him and grappling with my own complex emotions. Prior to his arrest, he was my best friend, and our love blossomed during the tumultuous period of his trial.

It’s difficult to envision what lies ahead for us. I see him as my long-term partner, and we have shared dreams of starting a family and building a life together. However, the numerous obstacles he faces during his sentencing make our future seem uncertain.

### Hope for Redemption and Second Chances

Residing in Colorado, I am aware that after his probation and minimum five years on the misdemeanor charge, he may have the opportunity to apply for dismissal. Given his previous clean record and low-risk classification, I hold onto hope that he will be granted a second chance.

The idea of sacrifice weighs heavily on me, as I contemplate the challenges of being with him. Despite the hardships, my love for him remains unwavering, and I still envision a future by his side.

### Coping with Isolation and Strain on Relationship

As we embark on the first week of the next four years, I find myself feeling lost, sad, and alone. Our relationship was already long-distance, relying heavily on video calls and shared activities. The current restrictions have made it even more challenging.

While communication channels remain open, physical visits are limited due to the presence of minors in my household. His probation officer has expressed interest in meeting me to evaluate my suitability as a supportive presence in his life, offering the possibility of undertaking courses to enhance this role.

### Embracing Hope and Staying Strong

Despite the uncertainties and emotional strain, I hold onto the belief that things will improve. Together, we navigate the complexities of his situation and strive towards a future where our love and commitment prevail.

I understand. My situation is different as it is my son on the registry and he is living in my home. The best advice I’ve heard regarding the registry is: focus on what you can do and not what you can’t do. My son was indicted in Oct 2015 and released from the BOP July 2022. Probation for 10 and registration for 25. It’s not easy but it can be done. It sounds like your partner was given a great opportunity, as I watch so many here get quite a bit of prison time. You are not alone, but you are the only one who can make that decision for yourself. I can tell you most of the things I worried about have not come to pass. Maybe just face the hurdles one at a time. I wish you and your partner all the best.

Hang in There and be of good cheer. You should be supportive and happy as many of us have far worse situations than you. I don;t mean to minimize your situation but you should be grateful your friend and mate does not have to register for life and is on the Registry for life and cannot visit countries designated by the US to not allow any SO in. The best thing you can do now is be thankful and if you love your mate and want to seriously be with him, he needs to know that you love him and will fight to get freedom together. I am 63 years old and nobody wants to date a 63 year old SO even tho I have served successfully in 3 branches of our military and I am a part time law student and a great dancer. Enjoy your life and support your mate is the best advice I can give. You are lucky to have found a friend who has fallen in love with you because it is so hard out here to trust anyone. Good Luck!!!!!

I personally would wait until after probation, possibly after removed from the registry before considering having children so keep using what ever contraceptive methods ya’ll use. There’s mostly a financial reason behind this (as finding work can at times be difficult for a RSO, the other main reason is that it can be difficult to be a present parent RSO. School functions, birthdays, etc.

Your future should be left up to you and your partner, not us.
