SAN ANTONIO — A Helotes area man has been released from custody after being charged with perpetrating three separate small yet explosive attacks.

legal documents accuse Paul Moses Alden, 46, of rigging bathrooms in local establishments with explosive devices and causing blasts.

Multiple individuals reported sustaining minor injuries when the devices connected to toilets went off.

The initial attack was reported on July 20 at the Wash Tub on Bandera Road in Helotes.

According to the arrest affidavit, a man was captured on the security camera entering a unisex bathroom, and shortly after, there was an explosion when another individual used the restroom.

Although a woman was injured, she left the premise before a formal report was filed.

Just six days later, two more victims were affected at a Wash Tub in San Antonio, near Loop 1604 and Highway 281.

The affidavit states that an employee was injured when using the toilet, and shortly after, a young girl experienced a similar incident.

The detective asserts that the physical evidence left behind at both scenes is consistent.

They discovered remnants from small, commonly available commercial fireworks designed to detonate under pressure.

As per the affidavit, Alden can be seen on security footage entering and exiting the bathroom, loitering in the lobby observing the bathroom door, and departing the vicinity post-explosions in every instance.

Staff members informed the police that they identified Alden as a regular customer who used a membership card, and they possess video footage of his vehicle and license plate.

A representative from Wash Tub declined to participate in an on-camera interview but issued a statement expressing satisfaction with the prompt action by SAPD and the dedicated arson investigators. They pledged full cooperation with law enforcement authorities throughout the ongoing investigation.

Fire and police officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

Alden faces a charge of arson causing reckless damage or bodily harm.

His bail is set at $50,000, and he was released from custody on the same day of his arrest.

According to court records, he is awaiting formal charges, and a court date for his next hearing has yet to be scheduled.
