For small business owners who are PIX11 viewers, the opportunity to apply for a $2,500 grant has been warmly received. One of the grant winners, Elena Barcenes, the owner of Rinc├│n Salvadore├▒o, expressed how the grant is making a meaningful impact, especially during the holiday season. Barcenes, known for her homemade pupusas, saw the Monica Makes it Happen segment on PIX11 News and promptly applied for the grant.

BarcenesÔÇÖ restaurant, Rinc├│n Salvadore├▒o, is famed for its delicious and authentic pupusas, which are lovingly made from corn and can be filled with meat, pork, cheese, beans, and other delectable ingredients. The restaurant is located at 9215 149th St. in Jamaica.

Another grant recipient, Jarred Carter, the owner of Only Rare, also watched the Monica Makes it Happen segment and applied for the grant. Carter, a new father, aspires for his business to grow into a franchise and create generational wealth for his family. His unique hand-rolled ice cream store is the first of its kind owned by a Black entrepreneur in his neighborhood. The secret to his success, he shares, is his family, faith, and unwavering dedication to hard work. Only Rare is situated at 229-13 Merrick Blvd. in Jamaica.
