There was a book recommended to me called inside out credit. It was written by a former inmate. Helps with credit and life after prison
I read a lot of books by former convicts. The one that sticks with me is Born Again by Chuck Colson, the first person in the Nixon administration to be locked up after the Watergate scandal. He went on to found the Prison Fellowship which benefited me in countless ways when I got to San Quentin many, many moons ago. I still have the Bible provided by his organization.

Not trying to be disrespectful, but self-help and spirituality books are a dime a dozen in prison as every ministry under the sun donates them. He’d be much better served if you gave him entertaining reads as boredom is a real issue.

It’s not self-help, but I recommend “On Repentance and Repair, Making Amends in Unapologetic World” by Danya Ruttenberg. She’s a rabbi, but the book is intended for everyone of anyone.
I don’t know what his struggles were, but there were a few books that helped me years ago feel not so alone— by Dr. Patrick Carnes — his first was Don’t Call It Love. He’s 79 now and he may be retired. But the books were good.
Emily Horowitz has a book out called From Rage to Reason: Why We Need Sex Crimes Laws Based on Facts, Not Fear
Judith Levine and Erica Meiners wrote the Feminist and the Sex Offender
Of course, if you want fiction— it’s always good to read or reread The Scarlett Letter
