    >Can I expect a fine and points, offer of a speed awareness course or worse?

It’s entirely down to the police how they deal with it. You are within the range where a course *could* be offered.

  • be_a_pizza

99.999% best option is to do the speed awareness course (probably it would be just that and no fine).

I guess you were on a 60 road?

Though if you don’t mind having points/money off from you. They’d offer the option in the following letter.

Just some advice if you are offered the course and are able to take it online: don’t mess about during the course. Half the people in my course got tossed out along the way for not paying attention, having other people in the room, not doing the little exercises the instructor assigned along the way, etc.

Seemed to be older people who weren’t used to doing things interactively via a zoom-like interface. If you’ve worked remote, it’s just like a deadly corporate training class.

Most likely a course offering I would say. Costs the same but have to do a 3 hour course rather than take 3 points, it can be done online and there are around two a day when I looked to book mine a few weeks ago. Some people can’t be bothered and would rather take the three points but for what it’s worth, I actually enjoyed the course and took a fair bit away from it. Surprising what little traps you fall into when you’ve been driving for several years!

There is a website for just this thing. They have a form you fill in and ‘experts’ (people who have seen the outcomes enough to call themselves experts) answer and tell you the outcome.
    They are almost always right.

I recently had the exact same thing happen

They normally give you a leaway of abt 5% off and bcs it’s only 5mph over and your first offence they will most likely offer you the course.

A letter will come to you with the offer of either the course or points and a fine. Take the course, you will have to pay for it book a zoom meeting date and time, takes a few hrs and you’re done.

They will keep that on record for 5yrs so anymore flashes will mean points and a fine.

Also with the roll out of the new cameras we will see a massive rise of points and fines, what alot of peeps don’t realise is that sometimes you have to let your insurance company know that you have fines, they can and will weasel there way out of a claim if you don’t read the fine print.

It looks like you’re asking a question about a parking or speeding fine!

You may benefit by posting on the relevant [FreeTraficLegalAdvice forum](https://www.ftla.uk/index.php) or reading [Parking Cowboys](https://www.parkingcowboys.co.uk/), which specialise in these matters, in addition to LegalAdviceUK.

    Which police force?

  • VonNukem7

Most likely offer you the course and if they do I’d advise taking it over the points and fine. You don’t have to tell your insurance company but if they ask you just disclose it. At least that’s what my paperwork said.

I opted to take mine in a classroom as they can kick you out if you’re not paying attention or lose connection etc.

Once you’ve taken the course you won’t be offered another one for 3 years. Next time it’s the fine and points!

  • DimplesAndDots

If you get offered the course, take it. If you go for the conviction it will stay on your licence for 3-5 years depending what it is and you would need to let your insurer know on any cover you are named to drive on.
The points will also hike up your insurance premiums and you will probably pay more over the next 5 years on insurance than going for the course.

  • iceman2g

When you get to the point where you book your course, look at the different providers and find the best price. I assumed they would all be the same and so picked randomly, but I timed out on the first one and picked a different one the second time, and it was £87 instead of £100.

  • Magdovus

You may well be eligible. Don’t pin your hopes on it but probably.

  • Debtcollector1408

I was caught speeding in my wife’s car, 34 in a 30 if I remember right.

Have YOUR WIFE fill out the form as it’s her car and send it off, you’ll then get a NIP in your name. If you get offered the course, take it because it’s better than the points.

The course is a zoom call these days. Set aside time for it, engage with the course leader and try to go with it. On mine the course leader said if people don’t behave and engage they’ll get kicked and referred back for points etc. It’s a few hours long. Mind your manners, speak up a few times and don’t attract attention and you’ll be grand.

I was told that people won’t be able to see any info about having gone on it, and that it’s not necessary to volunteer the information but that I should if directly asked.

  • JackfruitTiny5170

You will be offered a course 100% if your licence is clean and haven’t had any motoring offences

  • Livid_Medicine3046

NAL but can’t see anyone who’s mentioned it yet. Remember a NIP needs to be dated within 14 days of the alleged offence. I had one about 5 years ago for doing 74 on the M25, but it arrived about 5 weeks after the alleged offence. When I phoned up to moan about it they told me as it was outside the window they could prosecute anyway. That was a good day

  • EvilFerretWrangler

Normally a speed you would get away with it stopped by an officer in a good mood. I would expect a course.

  • sonicthehedgehog336

Hi mate, quick question about the NIP.

What date was the offence committed?

    And

What date was the notice sent out? I.e. what date is on the letter?

This matters bc police I’m pretty sure have to complete this in 14 days.
