### Situation Update on Disability Application in Tennessee

I submitted my disability application in Tennessee on February 2nd and recently filled out and returned the work history and function report. According to the portal, the Disability Determination Services (DDS) started the medical review process on February 16th. Typically, my percentage of approval moves about 1 percent every day or two. Yesterday, I was at 19%, but when I checked earlier today, it had jumped to 26%. However, upon checking again, it had dropped to 21%. I am curious if this fluctuation was a glitch and if anyone else has experienced this. Is this progression a positive or negative sign? Thank you in advance for any insights.

ALSO, my application indicates that the review process is expected to take 7 months.

The truth is, no one knows what an Analyst is doing on your claim after they open it for review. The software used does not monitor and report at which step they are at because an Analyst may ‘touch’ your claim multiple times to check for various items that need to be received from either the SSA Field Office, the claimant, third parties, representatives, or medical sources.

Once your Analyst has started your claim, they do not necessarily finish it, because it requires input from others, such as medical consultants and sometimes vocational experts and quality experts. Depending on the input from these experts, your Analyst may revisit parts of your claim (steps) to fine-tune, so if the portal was correct you might see movement from step 5 to step 4, for example, or even step 3.

If you attend a consultative exam, for instance, it may require your Analyst to revisit various parts of the process, rewrite their legal/medical summary, again consult the experts, make consistency determinations, gather functional information, research applicable listings, spend hours doing vocational analysis (which may require contacting you for more information about past jobs) and again finalizing documents that will again need various quality checks.

All of this is to show you that there is no way for Joe Q Public to watch a portal and actually ‘know’ what is happening to their claim and know how close their claim is to being finished.

So many factors go into a final decision, and even at the last minute decisions can, and are changed. A claim can go out the door at DDS with one decision, be picked up for National review, and the decision CAN be changed.

Progress Bar means nothing.  It can fluctuate wildly.  Decions take about 10 months to get.

Unless your condition is catastrophically disabling and medically provable as one, you’ll be evaluated against the expected limiting aspects of the condition verses what you claim they are.

You’ll be sent to SSA doctors to be evaluated.  Then, your age, education, work history and job skills will be factored in to determine if you have the Residual Functional Capacity to Work at SGA Level.  If the SSA says you do, you’ll be denied Disability.
