    Following this as well, but I believe the military pay won’t count towards state income no matter what if it was earned outside of CA.

    [FTB](https://www.ftb.ca.gov/forms/2021/2021-1032-publication.pdf) reads like you still pay tax on that, unless it was in a CZTE area. They don’t make a distinction between active and reserve component folks, and it does say that people stationed in CA but TDY elsewhere are subject to tax. There is some info missing though that would be useful in making a determination
