First Creative Small Business Symposium Announced in Erie

ERIE ÔÇö Erie County Public Library, Erie County Redevelopment Authority, and NWPA Beehive Network are partnering to host the first Creative Small Business Symposium. The symposium will take place on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Blasco Memorial Library in Erie.

The purpose of the symposium is to provide small business owners in the creative sector with valuable resources and knowledge. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose four classes from a variety of options that best suit their needs. Additionally, there will be a grant workshop led by librarian Rachel Stevenson, where attendees will learn about current grant opportunities available through the Erie County Redevelopment Authority and receive tips on completing grant applications.

Notably, certain Redevelopment Authority grants require attendance at the symposium in order to be eligible. This requirement aims to ensure that entrepreneurs seeking additional funding also gain valuable skills and knowledge to grow their businesses.

Tina Mengine, the CEO of Erie County Redevelopment Authority, expressed her excitement about the workshop, stating, ÔÇ£WeÔÇÖre very excited about this workshop and what it will bring to the creative entrepreneur. Rounding out the immense talent we see with business skills can only help them take their businesses to the next level, which is what the StARTup Grant program is designed to do.ÔÇØ She added, ÔÇ£The symposium will be a tailored, valuable experience for those entrepreneurs seeking to secure additional funding.ÔÇØ

The symposium will offer various classes covering topics such as bookkeeping and taxes, fairs and festivals, online sales, business law, pricing services/products, branding and logos, marketing and social media, intellectual property, artist statements and bios, what the Beehive can do for you, and funding and opportunities for creatives.

In addition to the classes, there will be a tour of the Blasco Memorial Library and its Idea Lab makerspace. The workshop is free of charge and limited to the first 30 people.

To register for the symposium, interested attendees can visit the events.erielibrary.org website, select the date of Oct. 21, review the class descriptions, and then call the Blasco Memorial Library reference desk at 814-451-6927.

The program is made possible through sponsorship from the Friends of the Erie County Library, Erie County RDA, NWPA Beehive Network, Northwest Bank, and Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority.
