    If you resign you aren’t entitled to anything most likely unless you have a contract that guarantees you something. If you don’t work your working notice, you don’t get paid for it.

    If you have a contract with a fixed end date the extra 2 weeks they’re giving you is basically a bonus for staying on to the end.

    If you resign before the end date that’s a resignation and you are only entitled to the notice period.

    You can leave at any time. So the question is do you want 2 weeks pay and the joy of job hunting

    or do you just want to start a new job in may and not risk a pause in your income.

    I would tell your new company you have an obligation to respect with your current employer to work until June 19th and you can start July 1st. Especially since this is a shareholder they should understand.

    You should seek an employment lawyer to evaluate if you may be owed more severance pay under common law.

    Or just say fuck it and start May. That guaranteed new job is a good thing right now.

    That is an odd one. The purpose of notice is for you to find work. You found it. I’d say to the shareholder that will be your new employer that it is odd for them to word both sides of the deal. You will forgo the 6 weeks of notice from the old employer if they increase the notice in your new contract by 6 weeks.

    If you resign, you are not entitled to severance. On the other hand, if you stay until June 19, you should be getting like 16-24 weeks of severance based on your years of service. You should consult with an employment lawyer. Will the other shareholder hold your position for you until June?
