    If so, they need to give you the lesser of:

    * the remainder of your own notice period
    * the notice period they’d need to give you if you had not quit first.

    What does your employment contract say for how much notice they must give you? If its silent, 1 week would be the statutory minimum notice period, and that is easily enforceable if necessary by going to the Employment Standards Branch. You might be entitled to a bit more at common law, but that would require you going to the CRT and making an argument about the reasonable notice period.

    If you are let go, you can apply for EI. If you resign, you won’t get EI.

    IANAL. They can do whatever they want but they would be in breach of contract. Technically, since you terminated the contract already they can’t “fire” you. In order to stay true to the terms of your contract they would need to pay you for the notice period.
