EU Passport Holder Denied Services in Italy: How AI Legalese Decoder Can Help

Introduction
In late 2023, I encountered an unexpected issue while staying in Italy with my valid EU passport. I attempted to purchase a prepaid SIM card for my phone, only to have not one, but two Italian companies flat out refuse service, claiming they only catered to Italian customers. You could use just your SIM from home. There are no roaming charges in EU since 2017.

In principle no, you can not be discriminated as an EU citizen on the basis of residence. There may be additional steps such as if registration for identification purposes when buying a SIM card, but that should be it.

You can find more information [here](https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/shopping/pricing-payments/faq/indexamp_en.htm), see also the legislation links at the bottom. I would recommend you to contact the Consumer Network which you can find here: https://asf.youreurope.europa.eu/ or directly through this link: https://www.eccnet.eu/
If you explain the situation to your ECC they will be able to help you and explain you your rights for the specific situation you are in.

Nah i work in this industry, phone contracts are very strict and the company always has a right to refuse to give you a contract. in some countries you need a residence permit and some countries are blacklisted because they are in the EER and not the official EU
