## Concerns with International Investments

One of the major concerns that I have regarding international investments stems from a past experience with a company I used to work for that faced significant losses in China during the 90s. When you factor in the uncertainties surrounding events such as Brexit, the Ukraine invasion, and various other conflicts, the risks associated with international funds become even more prominent. These unpredictable geopolitical events can have a ripple effect on global markets, making it difficult to predict how investments will perform.

## Importance of International Investments

Despite the heightened risks, it’s important to consider the opportunities that international investments can offer. Many large US firms have a strong multinational presence, which demonstrates the value of diversifying investments across different geographies. By investing internationally, you can access a wider range of markets, industries, and currencies, potentially reducing overall portfolio risk and enhancing returns.

Isn’t a big part of it diversification? You named disasters in other countries – but it’s possible for disasters to happen in the US too and adversely affect the US economy.

When it comes to stock market investing, there’s some justification for keeping your exposure in the Us only. We’re talking about the biggest, baddest 500-3000 companies in the world. They all have international exposure in the global economy.

Reasons to invest in more global names: if the dollar weakens.

Also it’s a PITA having to pay a foreign tax on dividends, and try to get credit with one’s 1040 in the US. Hard to believe BUD has a foreign tax on dividends but it’s not owned by a U.S. based company anymore.

Many international countries are already getting away from fossil fuels. The US is behind in green energy and electric vehicles.

If growth happens elsewhere it generates revenue for shareholders..
You can invest locally, hold a share of stagnation, cash in dividends and someday fold a paperplane from your share, when the company can’t no longer compete at all and shuts down.

But your original question sounded more like: “Why should corporations expand abroad?”

Capitalism is a game of growth. You want more market, more revenue, more profit.
Foreign countries want better jobs & better stuff for their citizens and a share of your corporate tax etc. So they give companies a deal: Either our upper 3% pay arms & legs customs on your products, or you buy a facrory here, to get 15% customer base and local yokels to slave for cheap (in your terms) and you can export from here.
Why should anybody not invest abroad, under such conditions?
