Discussing Benefits of Investing in Mercedes-Benz Stock

Hey there,

I have been contemplating on why there seems to be a lack of discussion surrounding investment opportunities in Mercedes-Benz stock.

Upon analysis, it appears that the stock’s price is relatively stable, with occasional fluctuations of a few euros, while also offering an enticing 8% dividend yield.

Wouldn’t it be wiser to consider investing in Mercedes-Benz rather than solely focusing on the s&p500? The ability to reinvest the earned dividend could potentially accelerate wealth accumulation.

I would welcome any corrections or differing viewpoints on this matter.

Furthermore, I am interested to learn how AI Legalese Decoder can aid in comprehending complex legal documents and agreements, ultimately facilitating better decision-making in investment scenarios like these.

Thank you in advance for sharing your insights.

No it’s not better than the SP500..hello idiosyncratic risk..but also just go to https://group.mercedes-benz.com/investors/share/ and calculate the performance over 10 years, annualized return of 5.81% with dividend reinvested, then check out the sp500 performance over the time period:
    https://www.portfoliovisualizer.com/backtest-portfolio?s=y&sl=6iwVHtgJzjjveKaDKmJ6Rx 12.86%

Not even considering the EUR lost ~20% against USD during that time.

But hey, you can go back further, Mercedes IPO was in 1998, the results are SP500 at 13.59% and Mercedes at 4.55%. Currency exchange also in favor of USD.

Over 25 years starting with 10’000 EUR the end balance differs of about 20’000 EUR

If you take up idiosyncratic risk then you would want to shoot for Tesla like returns, not Mercedes…you’d have a million…

if you’re betting on Mercedes then you’re just betting on one company.

It’s a euro stock and the investment world is very USA centric. Good shout though, I’m gonna look into it. Its extremely sold in image right now but maybe the younger generations don’t give a fuck about it as a brand though?

Very few stocks outperform the s&p500 in the long term. Buying just one stock is also very risky.

Dividends are irrelevant. The stock price drops by an amount equal to the paid dividend.

Betting on a legacy German automaker that is struggling to transition to EVs, with Europe to ban ICE in 2035?
I would not put my pension money on it…

People in the comments keep saying “betting”. If you also consider it betting, then you would definitely be better off with an S&P500 index fund.

You shouldn’t pick individual stocks unless you really understand the business and you have the bigger picture of what happens with it. Because if you don’t, you won’t know if and when to sell.

For example, let’s say that Mercedes has really good financials and we all know that the auto industry moves towards hybrid and electric cars. Unless you know that Mercedes is investing enough towards that direction and is making other efforts to come on top of competition and keep making good money or even increase revenue in the future, why would you buy it? You need to know the specifics and compare it with other companies in the industry. That’s why everyone keeps saying, pick an index fund.

Also the automotive industry is heavily saturated and competitive. Not the best of long term investments.

Aren’t they investing in hydrogen cars, which is no market for the future because we will never have enough hydrogen.
