**Question about Property Tax and Utilities in Rent**

Rent in a house that the landlords paid property tax on in 2023. I know the exact amount. My question is:

**Including Property Tax in ON-BEN Line 61120**

ON-BEN line 61120, I should include the amount of property tax my landlord paid on this line correct? If I am claiming the OEPTC credit even though I as a tenant do not directly pay property tax.

**Inclusion of Utilities in Rent**

Also, do I include utilities that I pay anywhere?

No, you just include the rent you pay.

    >I should include the amount of property tax my landlord paid on this line correct?

No as you are not the owner.

    >do I include utilities that I pay anywhere?

    no.

Why would you think you include something on your tax return that you don’t pay for?

You should look at the overall principal at question here.

If you were allowed to do this and the owner did this too, what happens? Do you not think that this is double dipping?

Also, if audited what documentation would you provide to back up the “property taxes” paid. Your tax return is about you, not a third party. You will probably find that the software doesn’t allow you to have paid rent and paid property tax for the same 12 months, it is that way for a reason.

When you approach an issue from holistic perspective ie concept base, you will usually figure out the answer. I am not talking down to you, so don’t take it that way. I am just advising on how to approach a problem.
