You’d think with NZs skin cancer rates it would actually save these insurers money in the long run to cover early detection

You should talk to an insurance adviser – generally no cost to you (they are paid commission from insurance companies) and they can explain the different policies and providers.

If you take out health insurance with AIA and add their Vitality programme, you can get 25% off mole maps and they occasionally offer greater discounts too (eg. 40%). But there’s an extra monthly fee for Vitality so you’d want to be taking advantage of its other features as well for it to be worthwhile

In general health insurance doesn’t cover screening tests. By screening I mean a test done when you don’t have any symptoms. This is due to all the cost effective ones already being available through the public system.

Accuro includes it as a loyalty benefit.

I use my Southern Cross for annual mole checks at Skinsite in Auckland. Have done so for the last 10 years. They put it all through easy claim as well. I have also seen a specialist at the Skin Institute under my policy too (I’ve got Wellbeing 2).
