Administrator Guzman and Congressman Thanedar Shine a Light on the Black Small Business Boom Under the Biden-Harris Administration

DETROIT, Feb. 22, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Yesterday, Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman, the head of the┬áU.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)┬áand a key figure in President BidenÔÇÖs administration for AmericaÔÇÖs 33 million small businesses, made a trip to Detroit, Michigan, to launch the Investing in America tour. The tour focuses on the Black Small Business Boom under the Biden-Harris Administration.

During her visit, Administrator Guzman, along with Congressman Shri Thanedar, began their day on the Avenue of Fashion, a historic shopping district in Detroit that is predominantly Black-owned. Their visit included MAC Galleries, an art gallery and custom framing and installation business, as well as The Shoe Box, a local Black-owned menÔÇÖs shoe store. The tour concluded with a visit to Krispy Addicts Clothing Boutique, a Black-owned street stylish clothing boutique.

On this tour, Administrator Guzman engaged with the business owners about the rapid growth of Black business ownership, which is at its highest rate in over three decades under the Biden-Harris Administration. The rate of Black households that own a business has more than doubled. They also discussed the ongoing efforts of the Biden-Harris Administration to support Black entrepreneurship as part of President BidenÔÇÖs Investing in America agenda.

After visiting the businesses, Guzman and Thanedar conducted a roundtable discussion with local Black business owners at the Metro Detroit Black Business Alliance. The conversation centered on the rise of Black entrepreneurship and the ongoing Small Business Boom that has resulted in over 423,000 applications to start new businesses in Michigan since the President took office.
