    It’s your responsibility to monitor your accounts and report fraudulent charges in a timely manner. Not that this is fraudulent, you probably signed up for something and don’t remember.

    You can dispute anything, but don’t expect it to be successful.

    Unlikely. If you dispute it, the first question an investigator will ask is “If you aren’t okay with these charges, why did you ignore them for two years?”

    “I didn’t remember”, and “I never looked too closely at my statement” aren’t going to be sufficient answers for the dispute to end in your favor.

    To what end? If you still owe the company money for this subscription, or the subscription has not actually been cancelled, ditching this card and getting a new one won’t make that go away.

    What’s the website? Is it possible you signed up for a free trial and then let it roll? The odds that they found out your payment info and fraudulently signed you up without your knowledge are pretty slim… I mean, considering that you found the sign-up email and got back into your account says to me that you forgot about using it, rather than that they randomly targeted you.

    Probably depends on the bank. I had a similar issue a few months back (with one of my Chase CCs)- had a recurring subscription for ‘The Athletic’ website that had been active for 19 months. No idea where it came from, never even heard of the site before. Slipped through for me too, because that card has had a balance for too long… I called Chase Fraud and they cancelled the subscription, refunded me the $7.99 x 19, and reissued a new card for me.

    I didn’t even ask for the refund, I simply stated I have no idea what it is, I never signed up for this- and just wanted the subscription removed from my Card. I contacted ‘the Athletic’ to inquire/get the account removed and they were not helpful- as they kept responding saying “sign in and cancel your subscription” even when I said there is NO account with MY email in the first place. Crazy.

    Worst they can do is say no, might as well try! Also, lesson learned for you (and me too) to check all accounts weekly/monthly!

    Did you google the website to see whether others have had experience with canceling this subscription? Sometimes, that’s helpful in getting info both to kill the subscription and to present to your bank. It may well be a known fraudulent website such that the bank will find it preferable to credit you as compared to you reporting them for letting a known fraud charge your account for 2 years.

    If it is a business account, you likely aren’t eligible for the protections we get on consumer cards, so your rights come down to your agreement with the bank – but there are reasons a bank might allow a charge-back even if not obliged to.

    You can dispute pretty much anything as a fraud or merchant dispute. I know some places have a cutoff of 120 days for disputes, so you may not be able to dispute charges older than that.
