    You can pull out. Technically the original company may require you to work out any contractual notice period but they’re highly unlikely to do this if you’re yet to work a day / get up to speed in that role.

    I’d wait until you have a signed contract for the new role (don’t count chickens and all that) then send a note to the original company explaining to them why you’re making this choice.

    A tricky space to be in, but best to make the right call for you even if messaging that may be uncomfortable.

    As a hiring manager, if someone had signed a contract to accept a job and then got in touch to say they have decided to take another role instead, my reaction would be… “Ok”.

    Companies pull job offers all the time. What goes around comes around. It’s no big deal.

    You can do it, im sure it wont make the person you said yes to very happy, but if you tell them your simply going to resign anyway they would be foolish to not let you pull out. If its a small industry or recruiters are involved or anything like that you could have some reputational issues, but noone is going to court over this.

    As far as I’m aware, you can technically give notice before you start. Few places will require you to work however many limited days that may result in, as that’s extra cost to them to actually onboard you etc and pay you for that time. Notify them as soon as possible.

    Working in recruitment I would always understand and appreciate you letting us know and doing what is best for you. Most companies ultimately value their own goals, profit, and priorities over their employees so its only fair that it goes both ways.

    I’ve seen people never turn up on the first day of work, effectively just abandoning the job (which is a bit of a dick move). Most contracts have clauses about abandoning a contract. If you’ve not started, been paid or taken an offer that included a signing bonus or similar, just let them know that circumstances have changed and you can no-longer take the role. Best to let them know as soon as possible (just to be polite) once you’ve signed the other contract. Also, don’t expect that they’ll be that keen to interview you in the next couple of years if you see a role at the company that appeals to you. The longer you leave it and the closer it is to the start date the more likely they’ll be pissed off with you. If you do it on the day you are due to start or around that period, and don’t expect to work for that company in the next 5-10 years…

    It’s fine. I convinced a graduate to come work for my team as he already accepted a minimum wage offer n I.T (which shouldn’t even exist) and we were offering him 15k above that per annum. No way was he going to honour the other offer.

    You can resign whenever you like. 90 day trial means you can be let go with no reason. I’d leverage them for more money if you get an offer from the second company. Don’t say anything until you’ve got the offer from the second place.

    Yup you can what you want really. I doubt the job you’ve signed a contract with will try and make you work any sort of notice period. It may burn bridges but it’s always best to do what’s best for you.

    If you have not signed the contract you can. At this stage they have made you a job offer. The next stage is to aggree and sign the contract.

    Totally fine to accept the new one.

    To give an extreme example, we had a guy apply to work here, accepted/signed the contract, then ghosted for several weeks. They were set to start in 2-3 days then pulled out as they had accepted a different offer that was much higher. 

    We were understandably a bit miffed, mostly by the lack of communication, but you deal with it and move it.

    If not, well, consider yourself having dodged a bullet

    Confirm the new offer in writing first though

    Yeah go to the one you want! Do it. Wife did the same thing last year got offered the one she didn’t want first.

    Accepted in and 24 hour later got the call to her one she wanted.

    It’s been 6 months she’s over the moon
