You should be able to opt off of their services once you stop receiving cash aid. They may still pursue the other party for whatever aid you’ve received so far, but not for any ongoing duty

While you’re on Cash Aid, they will still garnish the other parent’s wages except for the wages will go to the repayment of the cash aid that was given to you.

When you cut the cash aid off, you will start getting the full child support amount if you have already applied and been granted the child support.

    Hope this helps.

I’m in CA and this is our only child . He asked me for a number and I said $500 (this was 3 yrs ago) because I was so desperate at that time for any help I could get and didn’t want to scare him with too high of a number . I even followed up and said if he couldn’t do that then Ben just a few hundred would suffice . He agreed to $500. Then one month I was falling short on some bills and asked him if he could possibly help with a little more that month and he agreed . I think sending me $800 and from then on he’s been sending at least $800 each month . We don’t have any court order or court agreements but it was during my rough patch that I had gone to apply for cash aid which then started a case against the father . A month later was when I stopped my cash aid due to him providing more support and then found out that the case against him would remain open to an extent as long as the child was still on state medi-cal insurance . Just the other day I spoke to someone who said thats not in-fact the way it goes so now I’m not sure and need to get clarification from a state worker I suppose .
