EPE starts the month after the last TW month. It lasts the next 36 months.
So if your end goal is return to work, don’t waste a Trial Work month and stay under the lower amount until you are really ready.
If you are also on SSI or close, look into Plan to Achieve Self Support, PASS, to help pay for expenses that will help you return to work.
Have maybe a seven year plan for yourself.
I used my TWP last year. Started a new job in Aug 2022. Resigned in Dec 2022 because it was too much for me. At the end of 9 months, I received a letter asking me to attach all paystubs I received during the TWP. I sent in the information requested. I received a letter back confirming my benefits would continue since I was no longer working. IÔÇÖve not gotten any paperwork about a review. I was approved in 2017 though so technically IÔÇÖm due for a review (my award letter says IÔÇÖd be reviewed every 5-7 years) but I understand they are behind on those due to Covid.
You will always roll into an EPE after the TWP. Everyone gets 3 grace period months which means if you go over SGA then payments are suspended then can get reinstated of you go under SGA but after you go over SGA 3 times then on the 4th month benefits are terminated.
The dirty secret here is that when you have your continuing disability review, CDR, the disability folks can hold any work against you. Even if you are playing by ÔÇ£the rulesÔÇØ.
If I understand correctly, if you stay under $1,050 gross monthly income in 2023, you can hypothetically work forever and keep your benefits without triggering a TWP.
