Furthermore, the Army’s Small Business Innovation Contracting Center of Excellence has successfully improved efficiencies and streamlined initiatives across the Army’s SBIR-funded portfolio. In 2023, the center awarded 350 contract actions totaling over $244 million and reduced procurement action lead time from an average of 150 days to just 26 calendar days. These efforts allow small businesses to focus on supporting the Army’s mission without being hindered by the complexities of the government contract process.
Project Vista and Incentivizing Innovation
Project Vista, one of the Army’s strategic initiatives, aims to expand partnerships between technology integrators, small businesses, and the Army. By incorporating investments in innovation into their solutions, small business innovators may receive a higher technical rating during the source selection process. This serves as an incentive for primes to utilize the investments made through the SBIR, STTR, or Other Transaction processes in their proposals.
The Army’s dedication to supporting small businesses and fostering innovation is evident through their continuous efforts and achievements in increasing Small Business Innovation Research Program awards.
