As mentioned in the title, I am currently pursuing social security disability due to my chronic Venous insufficiency. But you don’t really have the option of declining auxiliary benefits, if they are available. SSI recipients have to file claims for any Title II benefits they may be entitled to, or their SSI will be suspended.

If approved for SSDI, you are required to get your kids set up with auxiliary benefits instead of SSI. It’s not a decision you make.
I’m on SSDI and my son qualifies medically for SSI. He gets $0 SSI due to my SSDI but he gets auxiliary benefits. It is less than the SSI max and again he cannot get SSI to make up the difference because my SSDI benefit is too high.
Any auxiliary benefits they get would offset what they get for SSI, but you would at worst get in the same position for them, while also having income for yourself.

I got a letter for my oldest today from medicaid (because they have been in with a psych for 2 years for ADHD) saying that they have a company that specifically helps their medicaid recipients file for SSI. The letter said that I need to file for them, and they would assist. But I’ve been debating in filing for myself for a whike, because I was denied 13 years ago when I first filed (this issue has been going on that long). But I’m to the point where I’m working 3 days a weeks and staggering the days apart, and my leg is still swelling and splitting. I can’t keep doing this.

If your SSDI is only $1250/month, your auxiliary benefits cannot be more than 50% – so $625 – which is split between all your children. So, their SSI would be reduced but not eliminated.
