He gets nothing except the ~60 credit hours to transfer elsewhere.
HeÔÇÖs lucky he didnÔÇÖt get a one way ticket to boot camp but I know for service academy first 2 years is on the house.
I donÔÇÖt mean to be a jerk but think about what your asking: ÔÇ£my friend committed to service in exchange for college, but left halfway through, is he entitled to more free college without doing the service?ÔÇØ
Maybe you donÔÇÖt understand service academies or the GI Bill, but the GI Bill is a benefit you gain from service, and service academies are basically a debt you owe back to the service for getting the education up front.
Why would he get any?
None – he is not eligible – he didnÔÇÖt serve on active duty. Period. Done.
None your first 5 years after commissioning doesnÔÇÖt count for academy grabs.
If I didnt serve, how much of my 20 year O10 pension do I get
Zero.
I think it is quite obvious what his eligibility would be.
Zero. GI Bill is for military members. Your friend never became one. He can get a job tho.
He’s lucky he quit when he did or he’d be on his way to be an E1-E3.
None. He didnÔÇÖt serve.
To be fair, there was a loophole that existed for Coast Guard Academy cadets who didn’t commission but could still get Post 9/11 GI Bill Benefits without being prior enlisted. This loophole was closed sometime around 2011. Now, it is truly the case that time spent at any service academy does not count towards eligibility for GI Bill.
If he’s leaving by choice or for academic/discipline reasons, nothing. I knew a guy who was medically discharged and got VA retraining/rehabilitation support.
