Have you looked at the class code? Typically even for economy there are different letters which indicate the conditions. These can be found using Google or through forums.
What, if anything, does your booking confirmation state about the status of the purchased ticket and it’s cancellation/change terms. That would be the starting point of any argument.
Did you book using a credit card? What would happen if you issued a chargeback? I have a feeling Ethiad would not respond well to that and probably blacklist you so you wouldn’t be able to use them again. Can you use another airline in that case?
I’d try again, speaking to someone else. I’ve had some ridiculous conversations with customer services from a few airlines. They seem to either hate you or be so on the ball you can’t believe your luck.
