The judge has to first write up their decision and file it with the SSA who then signs off and send the claim for payment processing. That stuff usually takes a couple months or so. It’s highly unlikely a payment will come for awhile. Backpay begins to accrue 5 months from the Onset Date of Disability. Do you know that date, was it told to you?

Filed October 2020, after years of denials got to my hearing January 9 of this year , decision letter March 29, portal went to step 5 and showed the approved status may 1. Received back pay today may 3. My first monthly payment will be in June . Hope that helps .

    Depends on many factors.

    1. DId the judge send you the final decision in writing?

At what level did you win? ALJ decision, AC decision, a decision by the federal court, or a decision by an ALJ or AC, after a federal court remand? Also, age is a factor including what provisions of disability (SSI, SSDI, or combination of both).

It took a few months from my hearing to receive the judge’s written decision (mid-September to early January). I think she usually took a little longer than other judges my lawyer went before. From there, it took less than two months to receive back pay, and that included having to straighten out a banking issue.

It took two weeks for judge to send written decision for me. Then three days later social security website updated to stage 4 of 5, two days later 5 of 5 approved. The website then let me update the banking info. I’m hoping since a day later it shows my monthly amount and back pay monthly amount ( no total though) that I’ll get paid on the schedule posted. Depending on your birthday it’s 2nd through 4th Wednesday each month.

I was told even though I couldn’t work from 21 it only goes back 13 months .

Congratulations! My judge asked me one question; how did I feel. I told him I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. (I think the great civil rights icon Fannie Lou Hamer said it first). My claim was approved after one SS denial and an awesome attorney. I received back benefits within two months. Hang in there!

I never got ANY back pay, good luck.

I had to wait 6mths. That was years ago & didn’t go through court. Was approved almost immediately so maybe why it was 6mths.
